Rhinoplasty Aftercare

You can find some helpful tips on rhinoplasty aftercare in this article.

Rhinoplasty (also known as nose surgery) is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries today. It can be performed for both aesthetic and medical reasons. Rhinoplasty is basically reshaping the nasal bone and cartilage to make the patient appear as he/she wants, or ease the patient’s breathing problems.

Like all surgical procedures, after-care administration is extremely important for rhinoplasty. If not administered correctly, the patient can develop complications and/or can not achieve the desired result. During the hospital stay and their stay in our patient complex, our patients receive an in-depth after-care service. However, they need to continue administering the after-care themselves when they return home.

After returning home, the after-care administration is all up to the patient. Below are some of our advices for our patients to follow during their recovery from nose surgery:

  • First of all, the nose should be kept clean. While washing your face, you can also wash your nose without putting pressure on it. If there is any nasal blockage, avoid putting your finger or any other object in your nose.
  • You can take some pain relievers in case of any discomfort. However, you should make sure that the medication you are taking does not have a blood-thinning effect.
  • After rhinoplasty, in order to minimize swelling, you need to sleep on your back with your head elevated. Also, to prevent causing trauma to the nose when turning from side to side, you can place some pillows around your body.
  • Keep in mind that swelling is normal after any surgery, including rhinoplasty. It can last up to a few months. The best thing you can do in order to manage the swelling is to apply an ice pack, covered with a soft cloth or towel on the nose. You can repeat this a few times a day.
  • In order to recover quickly from nose surgery, maintain a balanced diet. Including some high-protein foods in your diet will help with recovery.
  • Perform the nasal massages the surgeon has instructed. You can perform nasal massages for 15-20 minutes every day to reduce the swelling. As the swelling increases during sleep, the best time to perform the massage is in the morning.
